'You've never seen a show like this in America': Simon Cowell does the hard-sell on X Factor USA... and promises winner $5million cash prize

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Serious business: Simon Cowell released a new promotional video today to explain X Factor to the US audience ahead of the first auditions in March

Simon Cowell went on the charm offensive today in a new video to promote and explain X Factor to the American audience.

The mogul talked up the US version of the show, which is already a hit in Britain, ahead of the first round of auditions in March.

Appearing in the three-and-a-half minute clip, the 51-year-old, who left America Idol to focus on his own show, made it clear he is determined for it to be a success.

'I can assure you one thing - you've never seen a show like this in America,' he said in the clip. 'A lot is going to surprise you.'

Dressed in his signature black suit and open white shirt combination, he gave the hard sell on his beloved talent show, describing to the US audience what to expect.

As the clip began, Simon explained how the competition works.

'It's basically a singing competition with a twist, the auditions are open to everybody who can sing... you can be 12, you can be 112!' he said.

Frenzy: The clip uses footage taken during auditions for the British version of the show

'As a platform, as a performer this is going to be a great opportunity for you.'
The clip flashed to performances and auditions of last year's UK version of the show, featuring winner Matt Cardle, and crowd favourite, Cher Lloyd.

In each series, a judge is allocated a category to mentor and chooses a small number of acts to progress to the live finals.

The video featured Simon alongside his assigned boy band, One Direction.
It also contained out-takes of controversial past performers, including the two cousins who punched each other during an audition.

Simon also revealed in which cities of the 50 US states, where auditions will take place.

'If you want to audition we are going to be in the following cities: Miami, New York, Seattle, LA, Dallas, Chicago,' he said.

Winners are grinners: It performances by past stars, including last year's UK winner Matt Cardle, and performer Cher Lloyd, who came third

Hands on: Simon, with British act One Direction, explained how judges mentor categories

And unlike the UK version where auditions occur in front of three judges, he explained that in the US version competitors will be forced to perform in front of a mammoth crowd.

'On this show the contestants have to do auditions in front of 3,000 - 4,000 people. If you can come out and nail in in front of 3-4 thousand people, you have the makings of a star,' he said.

'I have always trusted the audience on the live show, so I think it is right that you've got to trust them on the audition process.'

He also warned viewers that judges will no be picking anybody generic.

'You've got to stand out. you've got to be remembered. Dress differently, behave differently, dance differently... just be remembered,' he said.

And he explained that he is hell-bent on finding the next biggest star in America.
'I would love to find someone who could be the star all over the world, and I would love to say we found this person on this show.'

Coming soon: The show is due to kick off this fall in the US

Putting his money where his mouth is, Simon also reminded viewers about the mammoth prize money, which is at a staggering $5 million.

He reminded contenders that it was no paltry sum, and to earn it the contestants must be the best.

'If I am going to come back to America and say, 'I'm serious about this and I am serious about finding talent, then I am going to guarantee the winner of the competition, five million... cash... its a $5m audition and you only get the 5 million if you win and you better be good.'

The US version of the X Factor is due to start in September.

X Factor Tour hits Dublin but Cher Lloyd steals the limelight again in pink and black tutu

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Punk princess: Cher Lloyd took to the stage in a black and pink ensemble consisting of Adidas trainers and a tutu while in Dublin

As The X Factor live tour hit Dublin during the finalists’ fourth day of performing, Cher Lloyd stole the limelight again in a vibrant ensemble.

Her punk-inspired costume combined Adidas trainers with tights, a studded jacket and a puffy tutu with hot pink sashes.

The 17-year-old singer had already dyed her brunette hair bright red to stay in the spotlight and she seems determined to be at the forefront of on-stage fashion.

Dancers: Cher Lloyd had a flurry of back-up dancers during her performance, who also wore bright harlequin fabrics

Cher was joined on stage by a flurry of backup dancers who resembled the Worcestershire teenager in their own renditions of tutus and harlequin-inspired costumes.

The X Factor stars were performing at The O2 in Dublin, where native Mary Byrne sang alongside Rebecca Ferguson, Katie Waissel, One Direction, Matt Cardle, Aiden Grimshaw, Paije Richardson and Wagner.

Mary, 51, who came fifth in the ITV competition, also followed Cher’s fashion footsteps in a bright red top and while in Dublin said the teenager has changed for the better.

The former Tesco employee told Ireland’s RTE Ten: ‘Cher has become a completely different girl, she’s looking after herself now, she’s calmed down an awful lot.

Speaking out: Mary Byrne said: 'Cher has become a completely different girl, she's looking after herself now, she's calmed down an awful lot'

One Direction: Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Nial Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik charmed Dublin at The O2

‘She still has her moments but she’s a young kid, she wants to reach for the stars, she wants it all.’

Mary also said that she loves Katie and Rebecca and credited her mentor Louis Walsh for changing her life.

But said: ‘I don’t think the girls heard from Cheryl [Cole], Matt has heard from Dannii, I’m sure the boys have been in touch with Simon, but I know that Cheryl hasn’t been in touch with any of them.’

Cheryl Cole’s former protégé Katie Waissel dazzled on stage in a pretty blue floral dress, while Rebecca Ferguson kept her classic look in a little black dress, gold heels and red lipstick.

The boys of One Direction, Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik, have been causing teen hysteria ever since kicking off the tour in Birmingham on Saturday.

No contact: Mary Byrne said that Katie Waissel (left) and Rebecca Ferguson's (right) former mentor Cheryl Cole hasn't kept in contact with the girls since the show finished

Winner: X Factor winner Matt Cardle took to the stage at The O2 in Dublin to join his fellow talent show finalists

And last night was no different as they charmed the audience with their cheeky smiles and choreographed dance moves.

The X Factor 37-date tour has seen the finalists perform covers of hits such as Rihanna’s Only Girl In the World, Bob Dylan’s Forever Young, Katy Perry’s Firework and of course Wagner’s mash up of She Bangs/Love Shack.

The singers will continue to perform at The O2 in Dublin until Friday, before heading to Belfast for their concerts at Odyssey Arena.

Meanwhile, as show executives get ready for the next series of X Factor, its bosses are said to be in talks with Facebook to organise a voting system through the social networking site.

A source told The Sun: 'In the UK, you will buy Facebook credit like you can now for games on the website, and use that to vote. Phone voting would still be available too.'

Show bosses are apparently in talks to bring in the system for both the UK and US version of the show to make voting easier for fans.

Next series: The ITV talent show bosses are said to be in talks with Facebook to discuss whether fans could vote for contestants such as Wagner (left) and Aiden Grimshaw (right) on the social networking site for the upcoming series

Report: Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole Leave U.K. 'X Factor'

The judges have allegedly announced their departure to ITV because they feel they won't have enough time to juggle both the U.K. and U.S. versions.

Simon Cowell is really channeling all his energy to the American version of "The X Factor". The music mogul has reportedly informed ITV of his resignation as the judge on the U.K. show, effective from the upcoming season. "The X Factor (US)" will premiere in September this year.

Cowell allegedly told ITV chief Peter Fincham, "I'm committed to the American show and I'm not going to do both." And Cowell won't be the only one because Cheryl Cole, who is reportedly on Cowell's list as his partner for the U.S. version, is also making an exit.

A source told News of the World that the network is concerned about the departure of these two, saying "There will be massive shake-up. Simon is a huge, huge loss. He gives the judging panel such authority and there are big fears that millions will switch off without him. And two million extra viewers tuned in when Cheryl joined the panel. To lose her as well is a nightmare."

Furthermore, ITV is making sure that Dannii Minogue and Louis Walsh will not follow the same route by cranking up their salaries up to BPS1.2 million. Also, the network has been looking for a replacement, and two names which have popped up on their list are Robbie Williams and Adele.

X Factor finalists step out for the first night of their tour... and guess who's stealing the spotlight again

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Standing out: Cher Lloyd leaves her Birmingham hotel ahead of tonight's X Factor tour opening night

She may not have the best voice of the competition and didn't even make it to the grand finale of the series.

But the X Factor contestant who has undoubtedly stolen the spotlight since the season ended before Christmas is 17-year-old Cher Lloyd.

And the teen ensured she will remain in the headlines today by stepping out ahead of tonight's X Factor tour opening night looking perfectly turned out.

The Worcestershire singer dyed her brunette hair flame red and had it styled into a bouffant crop earlier this month during rehearsals for the arena tour.

The new look - a copycat style of trendsetter Rihanna - came after she jetted back into town from Los Angeles.

Red hot: Rebecca Ferguson's trousers matched her fellow finalist's hair but were no match for stealing the spotlight

Cher is the only contestant to have laid down tracks for a new album, under Simon Cowell's label Syco, which is already on pre-sale for an August release with Amazon.

The teen wore a conservative beige blazer over rust red trousers and a silk print scarf and boots.

Casual: Winner Matt Cardle and controversial contestant Katie Waissel dressed down to head to the Birmingham LG Arena

Her transformation is a departure from her usual urban style of trackpants and baggy jumpers.

Even Rebecca Ferguson bright tomato red trousers couldn't steal the spotlight from headline-grabbing Cher.

The 24-year-old mother was typically elegant in a Chanel-style tweed jacket and heels.

Winner Matt Cardle was far more casual as the group left their hotel, in a zip-up jumper and trainers.

Fan favourites: One Direction's Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson looked confident ahead of tonight's show

He appeared to be taking every precaution necessary to ensure he is fighting fit for the tour, which ends in Cardiff on April 10.

He clutched a packet of Berocca tablets and a bottle of water.

The One Direction boys and controversial contestant Katie Waissel were also casual for the ride to the arena.

Mary Bryne, Paije Richardson and Wagner Fiuza-Carrilho will also take to the stage tonight to kick off the tour.

Cheryl Cole set for Stateside fame and fortune after she lands her dream job on U.S. X Factor

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

The American dream: Cheryl Cole, seen here in Venice today, will be headed Stateside after all after she was named as a judge on the US X Factor today

Speculation has been rife for months now as to whether or not Cheryl Cole will be a judge on the US X Factor.

But today a source told Mail the Girls Aloud star WILL be heading across the Pond for the American version of the talent show.

The source said the 27-year-old singer has been offered the job but has yet to officially ink the deal.

The news comes a day after a report in the News Of The World claimed the hugely popular X Factor judge is in line to sign a deal worth £10million next week.

Although boss Simon Cowell was keen to take Cheryl to the States for the show, producers over there had been concerned that not only was she not famous enough in the US, but some viewers might struggle to understand her Newcastle accent.

But after Fox executives were impressed with her style on the British show, Cheryl has apparently been given the opportunity to make a name for herself in the US.

When asked for a comment, Cheryl's spokesperson said: 'There has been no announcement on American X Factor,' adding any reports to suggest she had been formally invited to be a judge as 'speculation'.

However, in the last week, fears have been raised over the singer's health after she nearly cancelled a gig in Venice.

Geordie girl done good: Cheryl left Venice today as it was confirmed she is set to take the US by storm

Cheryl nearly pulled out of a performance at a private party in the north Italian city for which she was paid £250,000.

Her manager Hilary Shaw was said to be on the verge of tears after her client cancelled flights and other arrangements at the last minute.

She was overheard saying: 'It's been a terrible week. She's cancelling everything. I'm really worried about the repercussions.'

But Cheryl kept the date and arrived at the party just hours before her performance at the bash.

Other friends have suggested that Cheryl is still struggling to come to terms with her divorce from Chelsea star Ashley Cole last September, but this job in the US could be just what she needs to move in.

On the water: Cheryl is helped out of a boat after her performance at a private party in Venice on Saturday

Despite rumours that she has landed the X Factor job, she did not appear or was not mentioned on the first American X Factor ad which was aired on Sunday night during a commercial break in the Super Bowl.

The 30-second promo, which would have cost around $3million to air, revealed that the show is coming to the Fox network in the autumn.

The clip shows X Factor 'X' symbols flying in slow motion, before forming into Simon Cowell, who then turns to face the camera, with epic music playing in the background, and the slogan 'He's back' filling the screen.

Up until now details of the US version have been a closely guarded secret, but the music supremo has now revealed that the winner will walk away with a staggering $5million recording contract.

Guess who it is: Flying X Factor symbols form to create Cowell in the commercial

Winners of the UK series are awarded a £1million contract.
And in a move sure to raise eyebrows, hopefuls as young as 12 will be able to audition.

'I like the idea that a 12-year-old on this show can compete with an older singer and a singing group,' Cowell said in a statement.

'I’ve never believed there should be a cut-off age for talent, and we are going to put our money where our mouths are with the $5million recording contract.

'I’m doing this show in America because I genuinely believe we can find a superstar.'

'He's Back': First American X Factor ad airs during Super Bowl commercial break

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Making a comeback: The first American X Factor ad aired tonight during a commercial break in the Super Bowl and features Simon Cowell, a judge on the British version of the show and formerly of the American Idol

Commercial doesn't reveal full judging line-up but Cheryl Cole will get job, source confirms

His caustic put downs and straight-talking style have been missed by viewers of this season's American Idol.

But Simon Cowell will be making a comeback to U.S. TV screens this autumn - with the X Factor.

An estimated 100million viewers in the States saw the first ever ad for the talent show air tonight during a commercial break in the Super Bowl.

The 30-second promo would have cost around $3million to air and revealed that the show is coming to the Fox network in the fall of this year.

The clip shows X Factor 'X' symbols flying in slow motion, before forming into Simon Cowell.

Guess who it is: Flying X Factor symbols form to create Cowell in the commercial

He means business: Once formed he then turns around to face the camera, with a serious look on his face

He then turns to face the camera, with epic music playing in the background, and the slogan 'He's back' fills the screen.

Despite reports that Cheryl Cole, one of the judges in the British version of the show, will be joining the line-up, the commercial didn't give a hint of who might be on the U.S. panel.

Miss Cole's people are yet to comment on fresh reports the 27-year-old Girls Aloud star has landed a role.

At first it looked like she had bagged the job after Fox executives were impressed with her style on the British show.

Reports this month then suggested her hopes were dashed after bosses became concerned she was not famous enough in the U.S.

Be prepared: Cowell will be the top judge on the show, which is hugely successful in the UK, but the rest of the judging panel was not revealed

Not long now: The ad, which would have cost around $3million to air during the highly lucrative Super Bowl slot, revealed the show is coming to the Fox network this autumn

However the British Daily Express today reported she had been given the job.
A source told The Sun: 'He wants the show to be the best talent show ever. Details about the judges will be released next week.'

Other stars who have been touted to join the U.S. panel include Nicole Scherzinger and Katy Perry.

Both filled in on the British show this year at various point for Cole, who was struck down with malaria, and Dannii Minogue who was on maternity leaving during the auditions stage.

Meanwhile X Factor host Dermot O' Leary, 37, has said he is unlikely to get a spot on the US version.

He told Chatty Man host Alan Carr: 'i don't think I'll get it. I'm not being pessimistic. It's gone on so long I've made peace with it.'

Tough-talking: The British judging line-up is comprised of Cowell, Cheryl Cole, who has been tipped to get a role on the U.S. show, Dannii Minogue and Simon Cowell

Cheryl gets the Cole shoulder in U.S. as Simon Cowell is set to miss new series of X Factor

On the rocks: Both Cheryl Cole and Simon Cowell are facing X Factor strife

Cheryl Cole’s hopes of conquering America have been struck a huge blow.

The ambitious singer thought she was a certainty for a judge’s chair on the American X Factor, but TV bosses across the Atlantic now doubt that she is ‘famous enough’.

It has been reported that the 27-year-old’s rivals for the chair include superstars Rihanna and Katy Perry.

A source close to Miss Cole, who has been househunting in LA, said: ‘It was thought the American job was a done deal but it seems the U.S. executives have had a last-minute change of heart.

'They are now questioning whether she’s famous enough in America.’
According to the source, Simon Cowell is doing ‘everything in his power’ to persuade U.S. bosses that Miss Cole is the right choice to sit alongside him.

Miss Cole’s setback emerged as Cowell, 51, was locked in his own X Factor battle.
The Daily Mail has learned he will miss the majority of the new series of the British X Factor, forcing frantic ITV chiefs into a fight to keep their biggest star.

The network has even offered to pay for a private jet to whisk him across the Atlantic every week.

Cowell was made the offer after he told ITV he would join the talent show for only the live shows and miss the auditions because he will be launching the American X Factor.

A source said: ‘Simon’s biggest priority is the U.S. X Factor at the moment – he has got a lot to prove and he has to make it a hit.’
Cheryl herself admitted last year she wasn't quite sure if Americans would know who she is.

She said on Radio 1's Live Lounge: 'They don't know me out there and I've got this weird accent. I love the thought of it and would love to do it.

Is the dream over for X Factor's Cher Lloyd? Teenager 'devastated' after falling victim to the bottom two jinx

By SARAH BULL

'Devastated': Cher Lloyd is said to be devastated after finding herself in the bottom two alongside Paije Richardson on Sunday night

Cher says being in the bottom two will stop her winning

Rebecca 'moves out of girls' room' because of tension

Cher 'jealous of Rebecca's natural fashion sense'

When she first auditioned for the X Factor, it was thought Cher Lloyd has the potential to win the TV talent show.

But now it seems the 17-year-old's dream could be over, after she found herself in the bottom two alongside Paije Richardson on Sunday night.

Cher was said to be 'devastated' after having to perform in the sing-off, and only narrowly escaped eviction from the programme when she was saved by Louis Walsh.

Struggling: The teenager, seen out last night, is said to believe she now has no chance of winning after falling victim to the bottom two jinx

A source told the Daily Mirror: 'Cher was devastated to be in the sing-off. She knows no-one has ever won after being in the bottom two.

Rival: Rebecca Ferguson is said to have moved out of the girls' room

'She told her family it felt like her dream was over.'

However, while former winner Alexandra Burke never appeared in the bottom two herself, she previously said she didn't believe in the 'bottom two jinx'.

She said: 'I know there is a rule that says if you are in the bottom two you don’t stand a chance to win.

'But I don’t think that is correct because JLS were in the bottom two and made it to the finals.'

Meanwhile, it has been claimed Cher is now desperate to topple pop rival, and X Factor favourite, Rebecca Ferguson after deciding she is her biggest competition.
A show insider said Cher is becoming frustrated by everyone saying how genuine Rebecca is.

A source told Heat magazine: 'People are loving Rebecca. They can see how nice and natural she is. Cher can't stand it.

'Last week, Cheryl told Cher that she need to make her peace with Rebecca. Cher admitted to Rebecca that she can be moody and it's just her personality.'

However, Rebecca is said to have found it difficult to put the argument behind her.
The source added: 'She accepted Cher's apology but she's not happy.

'Rebecca has admitted she still can't stand Cher and thinks she's a brat who behaves worse than her kids.'

And Rebecca is even said to have moved out of the girls' bedroom because she can't handle the tension with Cher.

'In the living room or the studio, Cher takes over,' the source said. 'She doesn't give other contestants any time to say anything or voice their opinions.

Style wars: Cher is apparently also jealous of Rebecca's natural fashion sense

'Cher knows Rebecca isn't confrontational and will back off and walk away. Cher will focus on someone who threatens her and then try to suss out that person's weakness.

'Rebecca is quieter and more understated, so Cher will be really loud when she's with her. That makes Rebecca clam up even more.'

And the show's stylist Grace Woodward is the first to admit that Cher and her fellow contestant Katie Waissel have started to become envious of Rebecca's natural fashion sense.

Controversial: Two of the show's most controversial contestants, Katie Waissel and Wagner, head home after rehearsals yesterday

She told Look magazine: 'Rebecca isn't envious of any of the other girls, but I think they might be envious of her - not because she has special treatment, but because she wears things so well.

'She was the first to break out a big diva dress, and then the others wanted to do the same.'

Grace also lambasted a fan on Twitter this morning for criticising Cheryl Cole, replying: 'Ouch lay off Cheryl, i have a huge new found respect for her after dealing with her difficult brood every weekend.'

Heartthrobs: Matt Cardle and One Direction's Niall Horan leave the studios

It's not the first time Cher has been criticised for her outspoken attitude and sometime mood swings.

X Factor judge Louis Walsh previously said: 'I've heard rumblings of what is going on in the house - there's a lot of parties... But Cher is definitely the out of control one!

'She causes a lot of trouble. She's as miserable and moody as she looks.'

x-judge: Will Cheryl quit The X Factor to focus on her music?

By DAVID DERBYSHIRE

Good to go: Cheryl Cole leaving The X Factor studio after Sunday's live sing-off. But is she planning on leaving the show for good?

Cheryl Cole is on the verge of quitting The X Factor after this series to concentrate on her music career, it is thought.

The 27-year-old, who has come under attack from fans and finalists this series, is on the brink of launching her pop career in the U.S. which would mean spending more time than ever across the Atlantic, trying to break the U.S. market.

Despite her commitments to the ITV reality show, she made a 36-hour trip to Los Angeles this month, after a last-minute call from the U.S. arm of record firm Universal.

The Mail has learned that she is close to signing a U.S. record contract with the company.

Meanwhile, Simon Cowell is still keen to give Cheryl a judging role on the U.S. series of The X Factor which will launch next year.

Bosses from Fox network, which will screen the show, flew to Britain last week to watch the show live for the second time this series – and to scout Mrs Cole.

A show source said: ‘Cheryl is hot property and breaking America is the next obvious step in her career, whether she does The X Factor or not.

Last time on the panel? Cheryl - pictured promoting England's bid to host the 2018 world cup - may not return to the show

Simon adores Cheryl and has told friends it is a “good bet” she will be joining him, but he has to persuade the Fox executives.’

She had been thinking of making this her last series of the ITV show so she could concentrate on starting a family with her husband Ashley, before they divorced, it was thought.

Last night, a source close to Mrs Cole said: ‘We have not yet started talking about the next series.’

The Robbie Factor: Take That album is fastest-selling record for 13 years after group is reunited

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Success: Robbie Williams, seen out last night in London, has helped boost Take That's success

Take That proved they really are Back For Good in hearts of the British public after the newly-reformed quintet's latest album achieved the biggest-selling opening week sales of any album for 13 years.

Progress, the band's new album, has sold almost 520,000 copies - more than the rest of the album charts top ten put together, according to the Official Charts Company.

The last album to exceed sales of 500,000 copies was Oasis's Be Here Now, which sold 663,000 in its first chart week in 1997.

Martin Talbot, managing director of the Official Charts Company, said: 'Since their reunion as a four-piece four years ago, Take That have firmly established themselves as the UK's favourite band.

'Following the return of Robbie Williams to their ranks, that record has been further cemented - and they are now well on course to rule Christmas 2010, just as they dominated Christmas 2006 and 2008.'

Progress is the band's first album since reuniting with Robbie Williams.

Take That's 2006 reunion album, Beautiful World, sold 2.5 million copies in the UK and clung to the number one spot for eight weeks while 2008's The Circus sold one million copies in just 18 days and, to date, it is nearing sales of 2.2 million.

Progress, the band's sixth studio album, is the first to feature the full line up of Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, Howard Donald, Jason Orange and Robbie Williams since 1995's Somebody Else.

Date night: Robbie was seen leaving the Mandarin Oriental Hotel with wife Ayda Field

Catching up: It was a band night out for Take That, as Gary Barlow and wife Dawn Andrew were also photographed at the hotel

The 10-song album was produced by Stuart Price and is a mix of pop, rock and ballads.
Earlier this month, the band sold 1.34 million tickets for their upcoming tour. The first million sold in just eight hours.

It was one of five new albums to enter the top ten this week. Rihanna's Loud came in second spot, Andre Rieu's Moonlight Serenade entered the charts in fourth position, Greatest Hit's So Far by Pink was fifth and Bruce Springsteen's The Promise was seventh.

Loved up: Mark Owen was seen with his wife Emma Ferguson and their dog

Happier than ever: Howard Donald and girlfriend Katie Halil smiled for photographers as they left the hotel

It was a successful week for boy bands all round as JLS's new song Love You More was named number one in the singles chart.

The song was the official Children In Need charity single.

Take That remained in second spot in the singles chart with The Flood while Westlife's song Safe entered the charts at number ten.

X Factor 2010: Paije Richardson insists he's 'not too upset' about exit... and says rival Cher Lloyd 'deserves her place' on the show

By SARAH BULL and CHRIS JOHNSON

'Not too upset': Paije Richardson appeared on ITV's Daybreak today and said he was coping well with his X Factor exit

Paije insists he will 'keep moving with it' after shock exit from X Factor

Says he wants Rebecca to win, but calls Cher 'a great talent'

Paije Richardson has spoken about his shock exit from the X Factor last night, insisting he's 'not too upset' over the judges' decision to save Cher Lloyd over him.

Appearing on Daybreak this morning, Paije said he hadn't expected to be in the bottom two, but always prepared himself for the worst.

He said: 'I’m not too upset. Obviously it hurts a little bit to be out, but it’s the nature of the show and you’ve just got to keep moving with it.'

Shock exit: While Paije's departure came as a shock to viewers, he insisted Cher Lloyd 'deserved' her place

'It’s sort of like the come-down now - you get yourself used to doing things again for yourself. And I just feel incredibly lucky to get as far as I’ve got because I’ve already been kicked out, then I got back in and now I’m here just relaxing.'

Paije, 20, also said he has no hard feelings towards Cher, who narrowly escaped eviction from the show herself.

He said: 'She’s a great talent and she deserves her place. I’m proud of her and I hope she does well.'

Dignified exit: Paije and Cher were both seen leaving the X Factor studios last night after the shock eviction

As well as believing in his former fellow contestant Cher, Paije revealed he is backing Rebecca Ferguson to win.

He added: 'I think Rebecca should win it. I think she really deserves it and it would be amazing for her to win.

'She’s so humble, she believes in herself 100 per cent, and she is such a lovely person. You can't fault her for anything. As I say, she is so polite and she is so nice, there’s nothing bad I can say about her.'

Bottom two: Paije was sent home on the X Factor last night after facing the sing-off with Cher Lloyd, the first time either of the contestants had been in the bottom two

High emotions: Cher and Paije both looked mortified to be in the bottom two

Paije also took the opportunity to defend Wagner, who has found himself at the centre of controversy after calling judge Cheryl Cole 'a girl from a council estate who got lucky'.

He said: 'I do feel a little bit sorry for Wagner because people are blaming him for being in there, he doesn’t vote himself in there. But he is trying his best and it’s his dream as much as it’s mine or anyone else’s.'

And this isn't the end for Paije, who insisted he has no intention of giving up on his dream.

He said: 'I'm going to keep trying my best and doing whatever comes around and work, work, work until I achieve what I want.'

Singing their hearts out: Both were praised for their sing-off songs, but Cher managed to get the support of the judges with just Dannii voting to save her act Paije

Tough call: Cheryl and Simon both voted to save Cher along with Louis, sealing Paije's fate in the contest

Last night, Paije faced a tense sing-off with Cher Lloyd with both looking mortified at coming in the bottom two for the first time in the series.

X Factor fans seemingly turned on Cole by relegating her star act Cher to the sing-off while Wagner Carrilho - who Cheryl picked a fight with on Saturday's show - went sailing through again.

His on-stage argument with Cole came after he unwittingly told an undercover reporter: 'Cheryl has never spoken to me but that's ok. She's just a girl from a council estate who got lucky when someone gave her a job in showbusiness.'

Cheryl then laid into him, saying she was 'very proud' of her roots - while Wagner told her not to believe what she read in the press before launching a charm offensive.

Who to choose: Louis struggled to make a call, saying both acts were 'incredible' before finally voting to send hom Paije

Last night all four judges said it was unfair that Cher and Paije were in the bottom two, with Dannii seething that it was 'outrageous' in a blatant dig at Wagner.

Simon and Louis all backed Cheryl's act Cher in the end though, with Dannii being the only judge to vote for her act Paije to stay.

Making his decision, Simon said: 'I'm going to go with the person who I've continually supported. Neither of you should have been in the bottom by the way.'

Pressed by host Dermot O'Leary, he continued: 'The person I'm going to send home is Paije.'

Cheryl was next to be asked and said: 'This is absolutely the worst part. I absolutely hate this part. But I'm going to send home Paije.'

Dannii then said: 'This is just outrageous that either of you are there.

'I will always support my own act and Paije you did the most unbelievable performance this week and you deserve this.'

It was then left to Louis to cast the deciding vote. 'Both acts were incredible in the sing-off. I've always believed in Paije from day one,' he said.

'But in the sing-off, Cher, you were just incredible... but I'm finding it hard to pick between them.'

Eventually after Dermot pushed him for a decision, Louis chose to send home Paije, sealing his fate.

Paije performed the Sam Brown hit Stop in his bid to stay in the competition while Cher performed arguably her strongest performance of the season once again - Stay by Shakespears Sister.

Wagner - who locked horns with Cheryl last night over comments he made about her being from a council estate - cheered as he was given the all clear.

And Katie, who last night performed The Beatles hit Help, looked shocked as she was told first by host Dermot that she was safe for another week.
